Tell us how The Woods came to be.
The Woods started in 1985 as “Davlins – Fine Crafted Gifts of Wood” store in an old mattress factory on the Minneapolis waterfront, which had been turned into an upscale mall. Our selection included handcrafted furniture and decor from individual artists all over the United States.

Building a partnership with those I work with, especially my wife. Being able to share every day with her and running the stores together has been an incredible journey.

What other establishments should visitors to the Twin Cities be sure to see?

Walker Sculptures Garden’s or the Minnesota Twins Stadium. We enjoy spending our spare time walking around the sculptures or at a ball game.

Gertens Garden Center & Nursery

Inver Grove Heights, Minnesota  55076

Tell us how Gertens came to be.
Frank Gerten’s vision of quality garden goods in the early 1900’s began with a simple motto: “Buy from the Grower.” Frank began Gertens as a small truck farm, selling the produce he grew on his beloved land, primarily to local residents. Frank eventually handed his quickly-growing company over to his two sons, Bob & Jerry.

In 1989, the third generation of Gertens became primary owners: Bob Gerten’s two sons, Lewis and Glen, and Bob’s son-in-law, Gino Pitera. This new generation exuded the same passion for local growth, keeping their grandfather’s vision close to heart.

Where is Gertens located?
Our store is located in Inver Grove Heights, MN, just outside Minneapolis, MN.

What is a must-have Second Nature by Hand item to take home when visiting?
Reclaimed wood signs and, in particular, the Minnesota 6”x14” sign is the perfect souvenir piece for your home.

What is something unique about Gertens?
We draw visitors from five different states!  Our customers love to walk the aisles of our stores and they get the chance to see a wide range of items, from gardening treasures to handmade items for their home.

What would you consider to be the biggest accomplishment or achievement for Gertens?
We are proud to say that we have been in business since 1920.  Serving our community for more than 90 years has been our greatest achievement.

What is a local establishment that is a must-see for visitors to the Twin Cities Area?
We would say a must-see is the Minnesota Arboretum.
